Fun with phonics

I asked two of my students to identify and list examples of soft and hard ‘c‘ sounds from their storybooks this week. Turn anything into a competition or a challenge like that and it becomes fun.

One of the girls is a slightly slower reader but she has been stimulated by the classes, always participating as well as cracking language related puns.

At the end of class at the weekend she said to me that she is happy to have a break during half term but that she will miss studying and learning things.

I’m not going to lie, this is pretty rewarding, and all the more so because she is the student whom was deemed less comfortable of the two with literacy and English.

I don’t know how much longer we’ll be studying together but I hope to see even more meaningful progress as the weeks go by.
